Maidstone Man Jailed for Brutal Hair-Pulling and Mug Attack in Shocking Domestic Assault
Violent Rampage Inside Victim’s Home
Gary Nash, 39, unleashed a savage attack on a woman in her own home on 9 February 2020. He woke her by smashing her face with her own mobile phone, destroying the device. The assault escalated as Nash covered her mouth, trying to suffocate her while shouting verbal abuse.
Ignoring desperate pleas to stop, Nash struck the victim repeatedly with a ceramic mug and ripped clumps of hair from her head. The terrifying ordeal only ended when the victim handed over £15 from her purse to make him leave.
Blood on His Hands Leads Police Straight to Him
Police found Nash later that evening at a house in Hill Crescent, Lenham. Blood was still on his hands when officers arrested him. He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
Sentence and Restraining Order Delivered
At Maidstone Crown Court, Nash pleaded guilty and received a 20-month prison sentence on 20 April. A suspended 126-day sentence for previous assaults on the same victim was activated to run consecutively. He is also slapped with a five-year restraining order, banning any contact with the victim.
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
PC Shevaun Fairburn of West Kent Vulnerability Investigation Team said: “Nash has an extensive history of controlling and abusive behaviour, subjecting his victim to repeated physical and verbal abuse. I sincerely hope his victim can now take some comfort from this sentence and is able to move on with her life.”
