Cyber creep Robert Davies jailed for spying on victims through their webcams
NCA cracks down on tech-savvy predator
Robert Davies, 32, landed in the crosshairs of National Crime Agency (NCA) detectives back in 2019. The reason? Davies bought a stash of cybercrime tools, including sneaky crypters and remote administration tools (RATs). These allowed him to dodge antivirus software and hijack victims’ devices.
Hacking into private lives
Davies wasn’t just hacking phones and computers for kicks. He was on a vile mission, using RATs to remotely access devices and swipe sexual images, mostly of women. Shockingly, on at least one occasion, he streamed and recorded indecent images of a teenage girl via her webcam without her knowledge.
Evidence and victims uncovered
Police seized his computer and found 28 indecent images and videos of underage victims. Over 30 victims were identified and visited during the investigation. Davies was also tied to WeLeakInfo, an illicit online marketplace for stolen credentials that the NCA shut down last year.
NCA aims to shut down cybercrime tools market
The NCA is cracking down hard, targeting the very tools that make cybercrime easy to commit. By reducing access to off-the-shelf hacking tools, they hope to slam the door on tech-enabled predators like Davies.
