Vicious Robber Punches Pensioner for £40 Take
Richard Todd, 54, a notorious repeat offender with no fixed address, pleaded guilty to robbery at Reading Crown Court on Monday (30/11).
Attack in Early Morning Shock
In the early hours of 18 January, a man in his sixties was fast asleep at his Reading home on Wensley Road when Todd knocked at his door. As the victim answered, Todd shoved past and punched him in the face.
Todd then stormed into the victim’s bedroom and snatched about £40 in loose change from a money box before fleeing.
The elderly victim was left bruised but thankfully did not need hospital treatment.
Hard Hitting Sentence for Repeat Offender
“Todd is a serial offender and this sentence reflects how seriously the courts take personal robbery,” said Detective Constable Steve Parsons of the Priority Crime Team.
“The victim had every right to feel safe in his own home. Being punched at his front door for such a small amount of cash shows the desperate lengths Todd would go to steal.”
Todd faces a minimum eight years behind bars before parole and must serve another four years on licence if deemed safe by the parole board.
“I am pleased Todd has been brought to justice and will serve a significant prison term for this offence,” added DC Parsons.
