Cop Headbutted in Sheerness Brawl

A police officer was violently headbutted and injured during a tense arrest on Marine Parade, Sheerness, last Sunday afternoon.

Suspect Launches Brutal Attack Before Dashing Off

At around 4.05pm on 6 June 2021, officers responded to a disturbance near Marine Parade. As they tried to detain a suspect, 27-year-old Steven Mander suddenly headbutted an officer, knocking him to the ground.

Mander then fled the scene, leaving the injured officer needing hospital treatment.

Arrest Made and Court Date Set

Police tracked down Mander the very next day. He was arrested and hit with charges including grievous bodily harm on a police officer and escaping lawful custody.

Mander appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 8 June and was remanded in custody. His case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on 12 July.
