Man Charged After M6 Highways Worker Killed in Early Morning Crash

A man has been charged following the tragic death of a highways worker on the M6 last Saturday.

Police Attempted Stop Ends in Fatal Collision

Shortly after 5am on 26 February, officers tried to stop an Audi suspected of involvement in a West Midlands incident. The chase unfolded northbound on the M6 between junctions 14 and 15, where the Audi slammed into a stationary traffic management vehicle.

Worker in His 50s Dies at the Scene

The driver and sole occupant of the stationary vehicle, a man in his 50s, was sadly pronounced dead by paramedics shortly after the crash. His family are being supported by specially-trained officers during this heart-breaking time.

Suspect Arrested and Charged

Denis Balaz, 27, with no fixed address, was arrested at the scene. He now faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving. Balaz is due to appear before magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (28 February).
