Man Charged After Police Assault and Racist Abuse in Milford Road
Chaos erupted in the early hours of Sunday, 9 January, when officers were called to a disturbance on Milford Road. They soon found a 25-year-old man on St Paul’s Crescent who quickly turned violent.
Thomas Riordan Goes From Disturbance to Assault
Thomas Jack Riordan, from Church Road in Shanklin, allegedly made threats towards police on arrival. The situation escalated as he assaulted two officers. One officer was also subjected to racist abuse during the incident.
Serious Charges Laid and Court Date Set
- Common assault of an emergency worker
- Racially aggravated common assault
- Using threatening or abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke violence
Riordan was charged with all three offences and remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 10 January.
