Cop Killer Charged Over Sgt Matt Ratana’s Fatal Shooting

Louis de Zoysa Arrested for Murder

Louis de Zoysa, 23, from Banstead, Surrey, has been charged with the murder of Sergeant Matt Ratana. The fatal shooting happened on 25 September 2020. De Zoysa also faces charges for possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Hospitalised But Under Guard

Since the shooting, de Zoysa has been in hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition. The police ‘PACE’ clock was paused but he remained under strict police guard. Officers have worked closely with his medical team and the Crown Prosecution Service throughout.

Next Steps in the Murder Case

Following recent changes in de Zoysa’s condition and a CPS review, charges were officially filed on Tuesday, 29 June. He is due to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court via video link on Wednesday, 30 June.

Authorities have also updated Sergeant Ratana’s partner and son about this major breakthrough in the case.
