Man Charged Over 19-Year-Old Elderly Woman’s Murder and Robbery

A man has been hit with robbery and manslaughter charges nearly two decades after an elderly woman died following a brutal attack.

19 Years On: Cold Case Breakthrough

Junior Young, 37, currently with no fixed address, was charged by detectives over the 2001 death of 86-year-old Hilda Lockert. The pensioner was found badly injured outside her home on Overton Road Estate, SW9, on April 30, 2001.

Robbery Turned Tragic

Hilda had cash and a shopping bag stolen during a vicious assault. She was knocked to the ground, suffering a broken leg, plus serious injuries to her hip and head. The injuries proved fatal, and she died in hospital on May 15, 2001.

Justice Set to Follow

Young is now remanded in custody and will appear at Croydon Crown Court on Tuesday, September 1, facing charges almost 20 years after the tragic crime.
