Man Drives Over Victim and Drags Him Under Car for Nine Metres – Convicted of Manslaughter
Brutal Attack on Bexley Road
A 63-year-old man from Erith has been convicted of manslaughter after deliberately driving at a man and dragging him beneath his vehicle for nine metres. Uran Nabiev, of Bexley Road, was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Monday, 22 June, following a shocking 2019 incident.
Deadly Rampage Caught on CCTV
The horrifying attack unfolded in the early hours of 19 October 2019. Victim Jake Kemp, 26, and a friend had been out drinking on Bexley Road before an angry confrontation ended in tragedy. The friend smashed the wing mirror of Nabiev’s parked Toyota Prius in a drunken outburst, unwittingly setting off a deadly chain of events.
Witnessing the damage, Nabiev took his car and chased the pair along the pavement. He hit Jake’s friend, causing a dislocated shoulder. Jake tried to escape by crossing the road, but Nabiev U-turned and sped at him again, knocking him down and dragging him under the car.
Flight to Azerbaijan After Fatal Hit-and-Run
Emergency services found Jake unconscious with a severe brain injury. He died three days later in hospital. Nabiev fled the scene, booking a flight to Azerbaijan just five hours after the attack. He was arrested when he returned to the UK nearly a month later.
The vehicle was recovered from Nabiev’s home, showing signs consistent with the attack but mechanically sound. He denies intending to kill or seriously harm anyone.
Family and Police React to Justice Served
“Our son, Jake Kemp, died in a hit and run on Bexley Road… We would give anything to have Jake back. He will continue to live in our hearts,” said the grieving family.
Detective Inspector Jason Fitzpatrick added, “Jake had done nothing wrong that night… Nabiev will now face the consequences of that night’s terrible actions. I hope this result gives Jake’s family some closure.”
Nabiev is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 23 June.
