Finsbury Park Rapist Mukendi Found Guilty on Multiple Counts
A dangerous predator, Francis Mukendi, 27, from Finsbury Park Road, N4, has been convicted of multiple sex crimes at Wood Green Crown Court. On Tuesday, 22 March, Mukendi was found guilty of four counts of rape, three counts of attempted rape, two counts of sexual assault, and four counts of possession of a bladed article. Sentencing is pending.
Horrific Attacks on Six Camden Women
Mukendi targeted six women, aged 20 to 32, all living near Camden. Over two years, from September 2017 to December 2019, he stalked them late at night as they walked home alone.
The assaults happened just as the victims reached their doorsteps or communal stairwells. Distracted while fumbling for their keys, they were ambushed from behind. Mukendi threatened them with weapons — including a hammer and knives — and forced oral sex.
He fled immediately after each attack or when interrupted. All victims reported the crimes to police swiftly.
Police Breakthrough After CCTV Release
Each attack took place within walking distance from Mukendi’s home. Following the first assault in September 2017, detectives launched inquiries but initially hit dead ends. Similar attacks continued through 2018, with no suspect identified.
The breakthrough came in December 2020 when police released CCTV footage of the attacker. Recognising himself, Mukendi handed himself in the next day.
Officers seized clothing matching descriptions from the footage, a laptop containing deleted but recovered videos of one attack, and deadly weapons including a “zombie knife” and a lock knife believed used in the attacks.
Detective’s Warning to Victims
“Mukendi is an extremely dangerous offender who targeted these women as they walked home alone in the dark. His actions have left these women traumatised,” said Detective Constable Stacey Smith.
“I thank those brave victims for coming forward and providing crucial evidence to secure this conviction. Mukendi will now face justice and cannot harm anyone else.”
