Swindon Man Jailed for Recklessly Spreading HIV to Three Women
John Nehemiah Rodney, 60, has been slammed with a 12-and-a-half year sentence after pleading guilty to recklessly infecting three women with HIV. The former Toothill resident appeared via live video link at Bristol Crown Court today.
12 Years Behind Bars for Deadly Deception
Rodney will serve eight years in prison, plus a four-and-a-half year extended licence. He must complete at least two-thirds of his custodial term before release. The harsh sentence follows an investigation launched by Wiltshire Police in 2017 after a woman reported contracting HIV from unprotected sex with Rodney.
Ignored Orders, Hidden Status
Despite knowing his HIV status, Rodney flagrantly ignored the law, having unsafe sex with multiple women over several years without disclosure or medication. Police, working with Swindon Borough Council, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Public Health England, reached out to more than 50 women as part of a painstaking inquiry.
They confirmed at least three women caught HIV after sleeping with Rodney.
Breaching Sexual Risk Order Led to More Jail
In December 2017, Swindon Magistrates Court slapped an Interim Sexual Risk Order on Rodney, banning him from sex without police consent. But Rodney flouted the order repeatedly. His breaches earned him a two-and-a-half year jail term, stacked on top of a five-year sentence for an unrelated drug offence.
Justice has finally caught up with Rodney, who showed blatant disregard for the health and safety of vulnerable women.
