Man Jailed for Four Years Over Isle of Wight Child Abuse
Sexual Abuse Uncovered After Years of Silence
Sergeis Jakobovskis, 55, from Beatty Court, Andover, has been sentenced to four years behind bars for sexually abusing two girls on the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight Crown Court heard Jakobovskis repeatedly abused one girl under the age of 10 in Ryde during 2011. Around the same time, he also assaulted another girl, then just 16.
Victims Show Incredible Courage
Both victims, now adults, bravely reported the abuse to police in 2018. After a detailed investigation, Jakobovskis was charged with sexual assault and two counts of touching a child under 13. He denied all offences but was found guilty by a jury in October 2022.
Police Praise Victims and Crack Down on Child Abuse
Detective Constable Widger praised the victims’ bravery, saying, “Finding the confidence to report sexual abuse takes an incredible amount of bravery. I want to commend these two young women for their courage and patience throughout this investigation.”
“Protecting children is a duty we take extremely seriously as police officers, and we will do everything to bring child sex offenders like Jakobovskis to justice.”
