John Sinclair Jailed for Nine Years Over Decades-Old Sex Abuse in Aberdeen

John Sinclair, 72, has been locked up for nine years after admitting to a string of non-recent assault and sexual offences dating back to the 1970s. The crimes, which took place between 1974 and 1980, shocked the Aberdeen community.

Police Scotland Cracks Cold Case

Sinclair pleaded guilty last month and was sentenced today at Aberdeen’s High Court 1. He has been in custody since his arrest on October 3, 2019, following an extensive probe by Police Scotland’s National Child Abuse Investigation Unit (North East).

Detectives Praise Victims for Bravery

“We welcome John Sinclair’s sentencing. I’d like to thank the victims who helped our investigation,” said Detective Inspector Anna Johnston. “The passage of time makes these incidents even harder to discuss — their bravery is to be commended.”

Police Urge Other Victims to Come Forward

“If you’ve experienced any form of abuse, no matter when, please contact the police. We treat all reports with utmost professionalism and sensitivity,” Johnston added.

This case sends a strong message: Police Scotland will relentlessly pursue those responsible for historic child abuse and bring them to justice.
