Brit Jailed for Nine Years After Brutal Marbella Assault on Ex-Partner

Brit Jailed After Brutal Assault on Ex in Spanish Holiday Hell

Jason McInerney, 36, from Chessington, has been locked up after attacking his ex-partner in Marbella, Spain. The horrifying assault lasted several days in July 2023, sparking an international police hunt.

Terrified Woman Escapes Life-Threatening Ordeal

Fearing for her life, the victim desperately tried to flag down help at a local pharmacy. Instead, McInerney dragged her into his car. At high speed, he stabbed her in the leg. In a desperate bid to survive, she hurled herself from the vehicle travelling at 70mph. McInerney clung to her arm, dragging her down the road before she finally broke free.

She fled to a nearby beach bar and raised the alarm. Police arrived while McInerney still held her passport and belongings.

International Case Filed in UK with Crucial Spanish Evidence

The woman returned to the UK on July 10, escorted by the British Consulate in Malaga. Hertfordshire police took her to hospital where she was treated for friction burns, a leg laceration, and spinal fractures.

Though McInerney initially stayed in Spain, he later returned to the UK. The CPS International team worked closely with Spanish authorities to secure vital evidence including CCTV footage from the pharmacy and beach club, medical reports, and the victim’s testimony.

Jason McInerney Slapped with 9-Year Extended Sentence

McInerney admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. Yesterday at St Albans Crown Court, he was handed an extended custodial sentence of nine years, plus four years on licence.

This cross-border case highlights how UK prosecutors are cracking down on violent offenders abroad, bringing justice to victims no matter where the crime takes place.
