Stone Cold Violence at The Hussar Pub

On January 1, 2023, chaos erupted at The Hussar pub in Garlinge when Stephen Gowton, 36, hurled a flint stone through a window, seriously injuring a female victim. The stone smashed the glass and struck her, leaving her fighting for medical help.

Manhunt Ends with Arrest

After the attack, Gowton fled the scene, escaping in a car. Thanet’s Local Policing Team launched a swift investigation. Thanks to an anonymous tip-off, cops tracked down Gowton, who has no fixed address. He was arrested two weeks later on January 14. Officers also seized clothing matching CCTV footage from the scene.

Court Justice: Two Years Behind Bars

On March 7, Gowton admitted to causing grievous bodily harm and criminal damage at canterbury/" title="Canterbury" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Canterbury Crown Court. The judge sentenced him to two years in prison.

“This was a completely reckless act, which has had a devastating impact on the victim,” said PC Emily Reynolds, Kent Police’s lead investigator. “I hope the quick resolution of the case and the sentence now imposed provide her with some reassurance as she attempts to rebuild her life.”
