Man Jailed for Murder of ‘Kind and Thoughtful’ Kayleigh
Murder Shocker in Portsmouth
Kayleigh, described by her family as “kind and thoughtful,” was reported missing on December 17, 2019. Horrifyingly, her body was found the same night at the flat of 49-year-old Mark Brandford on Kingston Crescent.
Brandford Arrested and Charged
Police swooped quickly, arresting Brandford and charging him with Kayleigh’s murder. He also faced charges for sharing private sexual videos of Kayleigh without her consent between October 2018 and December 2019, aiming to cause her distress.
Brandford Found Guilty
Despite denying all charges, Brandford was convicted by a Portsmouth Crown Court jury. On February 19, he was found guilty of unlawfully sharing private sexual films. Three days later, the jury unanimously convicted him of Kayleigh’s murder.
Judge Slams Brandford’s Jealousy and Control
Sentencing him, Mr Justice William Mousley QC highlighted Brandford’s “jealousy, coercion and control” that shattered Kayleigh’s relationships with friends, family, and workmates. The judge also praised Hampshire Constabulary’s thorough investigation.
“This was a shocking attack on a defenceless young woman which tragically resulted in her death,” said Detective Inspector Adam Edwards.
“I am pleased with the jury’s verdict and that Brandford will now spend a long time behind bars. Kayleigh was outgoing, chatty and passionate – our thoughts remain with her family and friends.”
