James Sinclair Jailed for Life for Horrific Stabbings in East London

James Sinclair, 31, from Three Colt Street, E14, has been found guilty of murdering Shadika Patel and attempting to murder another woman in a chilling attack spree.

Life Sentence with Minimum 41 Years

On July 8, following a trial at the Old Bailey, Sinclair was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 41 years for murder. He also received a concurrent life sentence with at least 18 years for attempted murder. The 830 days he spent in custody on remand will be deducted.

Brutal Attacks Leave One Dead, Another Fighting for Life

The jury heard how Sinclair repeatedly stabbed 40-year-old Shadika Patel in Altmore Avenue, E6, in the early hours of March 19, 2020. The very next day, he viciously attacked a 48-year-old woman in Belfont Walk, N7, leaving her with serious injuries, including a punctured lung.

Police Hunt, CCTV, and Crucial Evidence Lead to Arrest

Metropolitan Police homicide detectives painstakingly analysed hours of CCTV footage to piece together Sinclair’s movements. Blood found on his trainers matched the attempted murder victim, sealing his fate.

Sinclair was caught on March 27 after police released footage showing him shortly after Shadika’s murder. Charged with murder and attempted murder, he pleaded not guilty but refused to appear in court or explain the attacks.

“I am pleased with the length of the prison sentence, which reflects the severity of James Sinclair’s crimes,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers.

“James Sinclair will now spend the majority of his life in prison and will no longer pose a threat to anyone on London’s streets.”

Devastation for Family and Community

Detective Inspector John Marriott, who led the investigation, spoke about the heartbreak caused by Sinclair’s actions.

“Sinclair’s attacks have devastated Shadika’s family and friends, leaving her two teenage sons without their mother.”

“It’s beyond me why he chose to attack two lone women at night. These crimes are rare but horrendous, and my team acted fast to stop him from harming anyone else.”

Met Police Vow to Tackle Violence Against Women

Detective Inspector Marriott emphasised the Met’s commitment to public safety.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is our top priority. Women should feel safe at any time of day or night without changing their behaviour.”

“We encourage everyone, especially women, to report suspicious or threatening behaviour promptly.”

“These horrors have no place in our city, and we will keep bringing offenders to justice while improving safety for all Londoners.”
