A Man Has Been Sentenced To Four Years And Three Months In Prison, After Robbing A 16-year-old Boy

Knife-Wielding Mugger Jailed After Terrifying Sutton Coldfield Robbery

Jayden Malloy, 19, from Erdington, has been locked up for four years after pleading guilty to a chilling daylight robbery.

Mugged Teen Forced to Hand Over Gucci Bag and Silver Chain

On 3 November last year, Malloy targeted a 16-year-old boy in the waiting room at Sutton Coldfield Railway Station. He demanded the boy’s Gucci bag, flashing the handle of a knife tucked in his waistband and threatening, “Don’t make me take this out.”

Fearing for his safety, the teenager handed over his bag. Malloy then went further, grabbing the silver chain from the boy’s neck.

Getaway Foiled by Public and Railway Staff

Malloy hopped on a train to Birmingham New Street, but disaster struck when he dropped a machete—the weapon he’d used to intimidate his victim. Thanks to quick-thinking members of the public and railway staff, police tracked him down hiding on a bus’s top deck outside the station and arrested him.

Officers Praise Public, Hope Sentence Sends Strong Message

“This was an unprovoked and terrifying robbery where Malloy targeted a teenager in broad daylight,” said Investigating Officer DC Andrew Grant.

“He thought he was above the law, armed with a large machete and trying to evade officers by hiding on a bus. I hope this sentence gives him time to reflect on his actions.”

“I want to thank railway staff and the public for helping officers, and I hope the victim finds comfort knowing justice was served.”

Alongside the four-year sentence for robbery, Malloy received seven months for possession of a bladed article and three more months for affray, all to run concurrently.
