Man Sentenced for Partner’s Manslaughter in Shocking Greenwich Death
Ricky Woodford, 42, of Henwick Road, SE9, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 11 November. He was previously convicted of manslaughter by diminished responsibility for the death of his partner, 39-year-old Sarah Smith.
Police Called to Disturbing Scene
Officers responded at 10:24am on Friday, 30 October 2020, after concerns were raised for those inside a home on Henwick Road, SE9. Upon arrival, they discovered Sarah Smith’s lifeless body. Woodford was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and taken into custody.
Post-Mortem Reveals Fatal Head Injuries
The post-mortem examination at Greenwich Mortuary on 1 November confirmed Sarah died from severe head injuries.
Family Devastated by Tragic Loss
“We have lost our beautiful daughter. The pain is almost unbearable knowing we’ll never share moments with her again. No parent should endure the heartache of losing a child in such violent circumstances,” said Sarah’s mother and daughter in impact statements.
“Our world has been turned upside down. We love you, mum, and miss you so much. This pain will live with us forever.”
Detective Inspector Bangs added: “Our thoughts remain with Sarah’s family and friends during this very difficult time. We thank them for their support throughout our investigation and hope they can now begin to heal.”
