An 18-year-old man from Lewisham has admitted to possessing a staggering 20 knives, including illegal zombie knives, after a police bust in Southwark.

Police Nab Denique Iswom Newell with Arsenal of Blades

Denique Iswom Newell of Mercator Road pleaded guilty at Inner London Crown Court on 29 April. The knives were discovered during patrols on 12 March when officers spotted a suspicious car with three people outside in Coldharbour Lane, SE5.

The vehicle sped off but was later found abandoned on Southwell Road. Newell was arrested nearby, and a discarded bag was uncovered containing 20 knives, some wrapped in cellophane as if brand new.

Two other men at the scene were also arrested but later released without charges. Newell remained silent during questioning and was officially charged with 20 counts of knife possession the following day.

Knife Crime Crackdown Continues

Detective Sergeant Paul Connelly said: “Our top priority is reducing violent crime in London. This bag was stuffed with dangerous blades that should not be on our streets. Newell will now have to pay the price for possessing these weapons.”

He urged the public to come forward with information to help stop knife crime: “We need to hear from anyone who suspects someone is carrying a weapon. This helps us detect and prevent crime.”

Sentencing Set for June

Newell is due to be sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday, 10 June. Authorities continue their crackdown on knife crime, aiming to keep London’s streets safer for everyone.
