Essex Rapist Locked Up for 8.5 Years After Attacking Man in Alleyway
Luke Bennett Jailed for Rape and Sexual Assault
Essex Police detectives have secured justice after Luke Bennett was convicted of rape and sexual assault at Chelmsford Crown Court on 22 June 2022.
Horrific Attack in Baddow Road Alley
In the early hours of 9 August 2019, following a night out, the victim—a man in his 20s—felt unwell on Baddow Road. Bennett, 29, from Townsend, Springfield, approached him, pretending to offer help. Instead, he led the man to a nearby alleyway and subjected him to a brutal sexual assault and rape.
Bennett Arrested and Sentenced
After the attack, Bennett called an ambulance and stayed with the victim until paramedics arrived, before slipping away. Police arrested Bennett nearby hours later. On 13 May 2023, he was sentenced to 8.5 years behind bars. He also faces a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the sex offender register indefinitely.
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
Detective Constable Ann-Marie Aubynn, who led the case, said: “We support all victims of sexual assault or rape and would encourage anyone who has been sexually assaulted to come forward and report to us so we can support you too.”
