Joyrider jailed after stealing car and crashing it in Guildford
Last June 26, Surrey police raced to Constitution Hill, Woking, after a car smashed into a wall – but the driver had vanished. The car’s owner later confirmed the vehicle was stolen.
Boastful thief caught on dashcam
Police uncovered dashcam footage of the driver bragging on the phone. He confessed to breaking into a home, nicking car keys, and “joyriding” the stolen vehicle towards Guildford. The reckless driver was seen speeding at 50mph in a 30mph zone before crashing while trying to video call a mate.
Kevin Moss found guilty and jailed
Kevin Moss, 28, from Rowan Close, Bellfields, Guildford, was linked to the crash via his DNA on the steering wheel. On May 30, Guildford Crown Court sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended for two years. He also got 200 hours of community service and must pay £1,000 to the victim.
“Not only did Moss burgle a home and take someone else’s property for his own enjoyment, he also went on to endanger the public by driving recklessly and carelessly through residential roads,” said Temporary Sergeant Christopher North of the Western Burglary Team.
“I hope this investigation shows we will not tolerate such senseless behaviour in Surrey,” he added.
