Man Jailed After Assaulting Cop with Metal Pole
A thug who attacked a police officer with a metal pole has been locked up for two years.
Abusive 999 Calls Spark Police Visit
In the early hours of Friday 29 May, a man identifying himself as Matt Gray made a 999 call to report an emergency. Instead of getting help, the operator was met with abuse and threats. When the call was ended, Gray called back multiple times, threatening to attack any officer who showed up — even boasting about wielding a crossbow.
Police Chase Ends in Violent Assault
Police were sent to investigate at Park Lane, Southend, where they spotted Gray trying to flee by jumping a gate into Southchurch Hall Park. After a search, officers found him hiding in a private garden. Gray then turned violent, swinging a metal pole and hitting one officer on the head. The injured cop needed hospital treatment for a nasty cut.
Swift Justice at Basildon Crown Court
Gray, 29, of Southend, was arrested and charged with assaulting an emergency worker and causing actual bodily harm (ABH). He later admitted the charges and was sentenced to two years behind bars on 29 July.
