A young woman was followed and attacked in Dane Park on the evening of Tuesday, 7 December 2022. Steven Palmer stalked her, prompting her to hide behind a tree and call her mum – but the nightmare was just starting.
Palmer grabbed her from behind, pushed her to the ground, and sexually assaulted her, trying to remove her clothes.

Luckily, another park-goer saw the attack. Thanks to their quick thinking and courage, Palmer was caught and later sentenced. He must serve an additional three years on licence after release and will be under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Police Praise Witnesses’ Bravery
Detective Lucy Clarke said: “We believe women and girls should be able to walk alone without fear. Kent Police won’t tolerate violence against them. Steven Palmer’s attack was terrifying, but thanks to those who noticed and acted swiftly, he’s now locked up and can’t harm anyone else.”
