Man Found Guilty of Stabbing Social Worker Eight Times in Brutal Attack
Sulai Bukhari, 35, from Noel Park Road, N22, has been convicted at the Old Bailey for the attempted murder of a social worker. He stabbed the man eight times in a shocking assault.
Two Officers Injured Trying to Stop Attack
Bukhari was also found guilty of two counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent after he attacked officers who intervened. The officers suffered injuries to their necks, chests, arms, and one even had a deep armpit laceration, though their protective gear helped.
Hospital Order Issued Amid Mental Health Concerns
On Monday 20 March, Bukhari appeared again at the Old Bailey where judges handed down a hospital order under Section 37, and a restriction order under Section 41 of the Mental Health Act.
Violent Attack Sparks Police Response
The terrifying incident unfolded shortly before 8pm on 6 August 2021. Police had been called to assist a Haringey Council social worker checking on vulnerable children at a Noel Park Road home. When entry was refused, officers forced their way inside.
While inside, Bukhari – who had been hiding nearby – ambushed the 61-year-old social worker outside, wielding two Swiss Army-style knives. He launched a savage attack, stabbing him multiple times in the chest, abdomen, shoulder, and arms.
Officers rushed to help, restraining Bukhari despite sustaining injuries themselves. The social worker was rushed to hospital and survived, but still suffers lasting physical and psychological scars.
Detective Constable Elliott Hughes, North Area Command, said: “It is only thanks to sheer luck that the main victim was not more seriously injured. The long-lasting impact on him has been substantial, with ongoing pain and psychological effects.
“This case highlights the constant danger public sector workers face simply doing their job. Every day, they put themselves at risk to protect the public.”
