Coventry Man Sentenced for Brutal Vodka Bottle Attack
Liam McMahon, 20, from Southam Close, Coventry, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm at Warwick Crown Court in January. He received a hefty prison sentence for the savage assault.
Victim Left Fighting for Basic Abilities
On 1 April 2021, McMahon struck a man in his 20s around the head with a vodka bottle on Park Road, Bedworth. The attack inflicted severe brain injuries, leaving the victim unable to walk or speak properly. He now needs 24-hour care.
Police Act Quickly After Victim Falls Ill
After the assault, the victim returned home but soon fell ill and called paramedics. The emergency team alerted police to his critical condition. Warwickshire Police identified McMahon as the suspect and arrested him the very next day.
“This was a brutal and horrific attack that left the victim with significant and permanent injuries,” said Detective Constable Mike Brennan from Warwickshire Police CID. “I’m pleased to see McMahon convicted and handed a significant prison sentence.”
