Life Sentenced for Savage Brixton Killer Mohammed Nur
Mohammed Nur, 34, of Bond Way, SW8, is locked up for life with a minimum of 32 years after a brutal crime spree in Brixton.
Admits Murder and Multiple Attacks
Nur previously pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey on 17 November 2023 to the murder of Johanita, possession of an offensive weapon, and carrying a pointed or bladed article.
On 13 May, he was found guilty of three counts of unlawful wounding from three separate attacks in Brixton on 29 April – just two days before Johanita’s murder.
Shocking Attacks in Brixton
Police launched an investigation after Nur viciously slashed three victims’ cheeks between 11:25pm and 11:29pm on 29 April near Acre Lane, Brixton. Each attack was quick and deliberate.
Then, in the early hours of 1 May, Nur fatally stabbed Johanita as she walked along Stockwell Park Walk, SW9.
Victim’s Family Speak Out
“Johanita’s violent death has left a huge hole in our lives and hearts. It wasn’t her time to go,” said Johanita’s father. “The pain is unimaginable. It’s hard to express just how much this has affected us.”
Killer Caught Red-Handed
Nur was arrested after a stop and search in Brixton Hill on 2 May. He refused to answer police questions about the attacks.
Officers recovered the murder weapon discarded nearby. Forensic tests found Johanita’s blood and Nur’s DNA on a piece of fabric used to bind the weapon.
Nur’s distinctive clothing matched CCTV footage of the suspect in all attacks, helping police build a timeline of his movements.
Investigator: “Justice Served”
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Webb said: “Mohammed Nur carried out four random acts of extreme violence. Nothing will ease Johanita’s family’s pain, but they can take comfort that justice has been done. He’ll spend a long time behind bars.”
