Speeding Dad’s Deadly Joyride with Kids Sparks Jail

Mohammed Yusuf Ali, 25, from Penhill, was locked up for 14 months and banned from driving for three years after a reckless high-speed chase through Swindon. Ali pleaded guilty at Swindon Crown Court on January 5 to dangerous driving, cannabis possession, and failing to stop after a crash.

Police Chase Ends in Chaos

On August 23, 2023, officers on patrol spotted Ali’s Volvo V70 on Cricklade Road with illegal window tints. When police signalled for him to pull over, Ali slammed down the accelerator and fled.

The chase reached terrifying speeds of up to 70mph in a 30mph zone. Ali ignored red lights and forced other drivers to swerve out of the way. His wild escape ended when he crashed into a parked Transit van, ripping off its wing mirror.

Children in the Car – One Unrestrained

Ali ditched the car in a pub car park on Southbrook Road and tried to climb a fence. Officers then made a shocking discovery — four children under five were in the back of the car, including one unrestrained child standing in the footwell. Ali was also found with cannabis.

PC Nick Slade said: “This pursuit was incredibly dangerous – high speed through residential areas and multiple red lights. Discovering Ali was carrying four children, one unrestrained, was appalling. It shows total disregard for their lives. Other road users had to take quick evasive action to avoid disaster. Ali admitted he put those children’s lives at risk. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the children will likely suffer long-term effects from this trauma.”

This chilling episode highlights the deadly risks of dangerous driving — especially when innocent kids are caught in the crossfire.
