Brother Murdered in Shocking Axe Attack After Threats
Sean Blaney, 38, from Salterbeck, has admitted manslaughter of his brother George Leon Bailey, known as Leon, citing diminished responsibility. The grim case revealed Sean had threatened to kill Leon days before the deadly assault. He told a family member, “Don’t worry, I’m going to go up there tonight and kill him.”
Blaney Found Leon Dead with Bloodstained Axe
Police rushed to Leon’s home after welfare concerns. Leon, who was registered blind, was found dead in his bedroom, bearing severe face and chest injuries. Lying nearby was a bloodstained axe and a kitchen knife. Sean Blaney was promptly arrested at the scene.
Denials Despite Damning Evidence
During four police interviews, Sean denied killing his brother or having any fallout. He claimed they were “best friends” and insisted he kept axes and knives in his bedroom due to paranoia about intruders. When questioned about chilling Facebook messages like “Gonna be checking out of this life in the next few weeks…I’m just gonna right a few wrongs,” Sean claimed his phone was hacked.
Tragic End for Two Brothers
Detective Superintendent Dan StQuintin said: “Leon was killed after suffering a brutal attack in his own home at the hands of his own brother, who is now beginning a significant prison sentence. This was a tragic incident that has been extremely difficult for the family to comprehend. Our thoughts today are with those still mourning the loss of George ‘Leon’ Blaney.”
