Brutal Nose Breaker Jailed After Hideous Home Attack in Sutton-in-Ashfield

Daniel Jeyes smashed his partner’s nose in a savage attack at their Sutton-in-Ashfield home. The 37-year-old tried to spin a dodgy tale, claiming his victim had injured herself by falling down the stairs when cops rocked up. But the truth soon came out.

Two Years and Eight Months Behind Bars

Jeyes appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, 7 December 2022, and was slammed with a prison sentence of two years and eight months after being found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“When officers first saw the injuries caused by Jeyes’ attack they were shocked and described them as horrific,” said Detective Constable Liam Cowan of Nottinghamshire Police. “This was an extremely unpleasant assault and one can only imagine how terrified the victim must have been. Jeyes then tried to cover up his cowardly attack by making false claims that his victim had fallen.”

Police Called After Midnight Domestic Row

  • Officers were called just after midnight on 7 August 2022 following reports of a domestic argument.
  • Jeyes tried to stop police entering, insisting his partner was asleep.
  • On entering, officers found the woman bleeding heavily with serious facial injuries in bed.

Jeyes claimed they’d spent the day drinking in Sutton town centre pubs with friends. He made excuses that his partner fought earlier and later fell down the stairs. But detectives, backed by evidence, dismantled his story.

Police Take Domestic Violence Seriously

The victim suffered a broken nose, bruising, swelling, and a black eye from the brutal assault.

“We take any report of domestic violence extremely seriously and have a dedicated team of officers working around the clock,” added Det Con Cowan. “Their job is to investigate, bring perpetrators to justice, and support victims and their families. I am pleased with the sentence handed down to Jeyes and hope this sends a very clear message that this sort of violence will never be tolerated.”
