Drunken Attacker Jamie Bicknell Found Guilty of Sexual Assault in Gosport
Shocking Attack Outside Restaurant
Jamie Bicknell, 32, from Gregson Avenue, Gosport, was found guilty of sexual assault after a shocking incident on 2 February 2021. The court heard he entered a restaurant on Stoke Road around 9.50pm, ordered food but was asked to leave due to his drunken behaviour.
Outside the venue, Bicknell blocked a woman’s path with his arm, made inappropriate comments, and asked her for sex. When she refused and tried to walk past him, he grabbed her by the throat and then by the hair before sexually assaulting her.
Caught on CCTV and Bus Driver Eyewitness
Following the assault, Bicknell nonchalantly sat at a nearby bus stop and ate food. CCTV footage revealed he travelled by bus from Gregson Avenue to the station in Gosport before walking to Stoke Road.
Bus company enquiries uncovered that Bicknell had chatted with the driver, revealing his first name and discussing mutual friends. This vital lead helped police identify and arrest him.
Trial Drama and Guilty Verdict
Bicknell denied the charges, leading to a trial in March 2022 that ended with a hung jury. However, a re-trial at Portsmouth Crown Court this week saw the jury unanimously find him guilty on 23 February.
He is due back in court on 29 March for sentencing.
