Pub crawl ends behind bars for charity thief

Mark Leigh, 56, turned a routine pub crawl in Aberaman into a crime spree. Instead of enjoying a pint, he helped himself to two charity boxes from pub counters and even tried to pinch a third.

Police swoop and swift justice

Officers quickly identified Leigh as the culprit. On Tuesday, 2 May, he was arrested and charged with theft and attempted theft. He was held on remand pending sentencing.

Prison sentence handed down

At Merthyr Magistrates Court the following day, Leigh pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight and a half months behind bars for his brazen charity heist.
