Banned Burglar: Sussex Police Stop Serial Shoplifter in His Tracks
Sussex Police have slapped a tough Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on Sam Bartlett, 42, from Bishopric, Horsham, to stop him stealing again.
More Than 30 Shoplifting Counts Land Him in Court
On June 8, Bartlett faced Brighton Magistrates’ Court charged with over 30 shoplifting offences. The court quickly granted the police’s application for a three-year CBO to keep him away from trouble.
Strict Restrictions Hit Horsham’s Notorious Shoplifter
- Bartlett banned from Horsham town centre daily between 9am and 1pm without a pre-arranged appointment
- Barred from entering shops where he’s already banned, including John Lewis, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, TK Maxx, Boots, and Waterstones
On top of the ban, Bartlett received a 12-month community order and must complete a nine-month drug rehab programme.
Police Praise Action as Win for Local Businesses
“We have secured a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) against Bartlett following a conviction of 30-plus shoplifting offences that have accrued in Horsham town this year,” said PC Jonny Walker of the Horsham Neighbourhood Policing Team.
“Bartlett has been a prolific shoplifter and has stolen thousands of pounds worth of items from stores across the town. Using antisocial behaviour legislation, we were able to prevent him from entering the town and reassure the business community that we are doing everything possible to prevent theft offences against them.”
