Drunken Rage in Cambridge: Man Throttles Woman and Wrecks Home
Lawrence King, 34, showed up at a woman’s Cambridge home drunk on August 13, carrying a black holdall. When the woman, in her 30s, refused the meat he was offering, King flew into a violent rage.
Terrifying Attack Caught by Child’s Arrival
King grabbed the woman by the throat, cutting off her breath. He only released her when one of her children burst into the room. The ordeal left the family shaken and terrified.
Smash Up and Assault: Chaos in the Kitchen
King didn’t stop there. He smashed up kitchen items, hurled a knife at the woman, and kicked over a high chair. The frightened woman dialled the police, forcing King to flee the scene. He was arrested the next day.
Cambridge Crown Court Hands Down Tough Sentence
On November 3, King was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to intentional strangulation, criminal damage, breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order, and theft at Cambridge Crown Court. He also received a six-year restraining order barring him from contacting the victim.
Detective Constable Charlotte Anderson-Chapman slammed King’s “appalling” behaviour. She said: “No child should have to witness the violence he showed towards the victim and her property. The victim’s children were understandably hysterical with worry. I hope this sentence reassures the family that justice has been served and combined with the restraining order, they will feel safe in their own home now.”
