Brutal Ex Attacker Jailed for Nine Years After Savage Assault
John Berry, 32, launched a vicious late-night attack on his ex-partner in Dunmow that left her with life-changing injuries.
Terrifying Break-In Turns Violent
At around 10.30pm on 23 July 2017, Berry broke into the woman’s home. When she tried to escape, he grabbed her, pinned her against a wall, then threw her to the floor.
Savage Beating Leaves Victim Fighting for Life
Berry pummeled her with punches, kicks, and stamps. The assault was so brutal she lost consciousness and only woke up in a neighbour’s house. She suffered broken cheekbones, a shattered jaw, and a lacerated spleen.
Justice Served After Manhunt
After an extensive investigation, Berry was arrested in March 2018. He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for nine years at Chelmsford Crown Court on 2 November.
“John Berry subjected his former partner to a brutal and sustained attack which left her with really serious injuries,” said Detective Constable Andrew Bagley. “He is clearly a very dangerous man who used extreme violence intent on causing serious harm. I hope this sentencing will help the victim move forward.”
