Dog Cam Catches Shocking Knife Attack in Leeds Home

Anthony Murgatroyd’s plan to catch a naughty pooch backfired spectacularly when his motion-sensor “dog cam” snapped footage of a terrifying assault in a Leeds living room.

Chilling Footage Reveals Brutal Domestic Attack

On November 5, a simple argument over Murgatroyd seeing prostitutes erupted into violence at a Cross Green home. The camera, originally set up to catch a dog chewing furniture, recorded the 38-year-old dragging the victim into the street and striking her repeatedly.

The victim fled back indoors, but Murgatroyd chased her, hitting her around the head and yanking her hair. The horror escalated when he grabbed a menacing zombie knife from the floor and lunged at her, slashing and stabbing motions chillingly clear on the footage.

Adding to the terror, he shoved a screwdriver in her face before handing her a beer bottle, demanding she open it with her teeth. Throughout, the terrified victim cowered while a large dog hid behind the sofa nearby.

Heroic Escape and Violent Arrest

Eventually, the victim fled to neighbours and called police. Officers tracked Murgatroyd to his Beeston home, where his arrest sparked a violent struggle requiring incapacitant spray and a Taser.

Though initially too scared to support a prosecution, the victim later provided a personal statement after police reviewed the damning “dog cam” footage. This evidence became crucial for securing charges against Murgatroyd.

Justice Served: 20 Months for Violent Knife Assault

Murgatroyd pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and illegal possession of the zombie knife at Leeds Crown Court. His 20-month sentence includes a previous domestic assault from August.

Detective Superintendent Lee Berry said: “This was a prolonged and violent attack involving weapons, and the victim feared for her life during an absolutely terrifying ordeal.”

“The footage from the ‘dog cam’ was key in securing charges as the victim was initially too scared to support prosecution. We remain committed to tackling violence against women and girls and using every tool to bring offenders to justice.”

“Specialist domestic abuse officers like PC Chloe Fennell provide vital support to victims and ensure offenders are held accountable.”
