Drunk Vandal Jailed After Threatening Railway Staff in Midnight Rage
Chaos at Shildon Station
Philip Longstaff, 49, from Coronation Avenue, Shildon, found himself behind bars after a late-night rampage on Monday, 9 November. Just after midnight, the North Northumbria Magistrates’ Court heard how Longstaff smashed hand sanitiser dispensers and tore down barriers at the Costa 1 stand.
Violent Outburst at Ticket Machine
The station night controller caught Longstaff in action. When a staff member approached, Longstaff exploded in anger over his card getting stuck in a ticket machine. Despite being told the staff couldn’t access the machine, Longstaff lashed out. He lunged, threatened to hit the worker and even said he would push him onto the railway tracks.
Court Sends Clear Warning
Longstaff pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour. Investigating officer Alek Marinkovic said:
“This was a frightening encounter for the victim, who tried to calm a heavily intoxicated Longstaff and stop further damage. Longstaff’s threats left the victim fearing for his safety. His sentence should send a message: abuse towards rail staff or the public will not be tolerated by us or the courts.”
