Thanet Police Clamp Down on Delivery Drivers
On the evening of Saturday 27 April 2024, Thanet’s Community Safety Unit joined forces with Home Office immigration enforcement. Their target? Food delivery drivers. The duo hit the streets to check that drivers had proper insurance and roadworthy vehicles before clocking on for work.
15 Drivers and Riders Questioned During Operation
The multi-agency team stopped and spoke to 15 delivery drivers and riders across the area. The aim was clear – crack down on unsafe and illegal driving practices and make Thanet’s roads safer for everyone.
Arrests Made Over Drunk Driving and Immigration Offences
In New Street, cops stopped a car and arrested a 50-year-old Margate man for drunk driving and driving while disqualified. He’s set to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 April.
Meanwhile, two more drivers were arrested over immigration offences and passed to the Home Office for further action.
Inspector Jim Woodward Issues Stern Warning
“For their own safety and that of other road users, delivery drivers must follow the rules of the road,” said Inspector Woodward. “They need to be properly insured and ensure their mopeds, motorbikes, or vehicles are roadworthy.”
“We’ll keep working with partner agencies to keep Thanet’s roads safe and tackle other illegal behaviour, just as we did during this operation.”
