New dashcamUK app turns your smartphone into a powerful tool to catch reckless drivers – and it’s free!
Smartphone Dashcam to Snitch on 21 Driving Offences
Launching this May, the dashcamUK app lets drivers record 21 different driving crimes, from running red lights to failing to signal and even using a mobile phone behind the wheel.
Unlike bulky dashcams, this app uses your smartphone’s camera, making it easier than ever to capture dodgy drivers on the spot.
Speeding Crackdown Could Be Just a Tap Away
The app may soon track speeding too, giving motorists the power to report fast drivers instantly. With only a quarter of the UK’s 33 million drivers owning dashcams, but almost everyone carrying a smartphone, this app could supercharge road crime reporting overnight.
Built for Court, Easy to Use
The brain behind the app, 46-year-old Ukrainian-born Oleksiy Afonin, has worked closely with the National Police Chiefs’ Council to ensure video evidence stands up in court.
“Footage can be submitted via the official police video portal in under a minute and the app is far easier to use than traditional dashcams,” says Afonin.
Safe, Simple, and Storage-Friendly
Worried about breaking mobile phone laws? Don’t be. The app requires just a quick tap on the home screen to start recording, so you stay hands-free behind the wheel.
It only saves footage if you tap to mark an incident—otherwise, it automatically deletes video after 30 seconds to save your phone’s storage.
