Elderly Predator Charles Maconochie Jailed Again for Grotesque Abuse of 11-Year-Old Girl

Charles Maconochie, 84, from Hartlepool but now homeless, has been slammed back to court for horrific abuse of an 11-year-old girl in 2012. The vile attacks happened over a year inside his home — the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. He touched the child inappropriately, slipped his hand under her clothes to grope her bottom, and even kissed her on the lips, Durham Crown Court heard.

Groomed Girl with Gifts, Then Demanded ‘Returns’

Maconochie cunningly groomed the young victim by buying her presents and then asking what he would get in return. The brave girl finally spoke out in 2016 after Maconochie was jailed for four years for nine counts of sexual offences against a child under 16.

Judge Condemns Maconochie’s ‘Despicable’ Repeat Offending

Sentencing the predator, Judge Rachim Singh made no bones about it: “You richly deserve to go back to jail, there can be no doubt about that.” He highlighted how the abuse lasted at least 12 months and how the victim had no one to turn to — unable to tell her mother or teacher and only telling police years later. The victim has suffered deeply, resorting to self-harm to cope with the trauma, the judge added.

16-Month Suspended Sentence and Sex Offender Register

Maconochie had previously refused to answer police questions while serving an earlier jail term. Despite investigation delays not caused by him, he pleaded guilty to 11 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13. He was handed a 16-month suspended sentence and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a decade.

Notably, Maconochie was jailed back in 2015 after admitting nine sexual offences against another girl under 16, including sexual touching and inciting sexual activity.
