Evil Child Abuser Joseph Telford Jailed for 25 Years After Decades of Terror

70s Sex Fiend Finally Caught After Victims Break Silence

Joseph Telford’s horrific crimes, dating back to the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, only came to light in 2017 when a brave victim finally reported him to the police. A massive investigation uncovered the full scale of his abuse. Three more victims, all children at the time, revealed years of torment at his hands.

Monstrous Abuse Spanned Years – Up to 60 Attacks

Telford ruthlessly assaulted one victim over 60 times across four years. Another suffered six years of abuse starting from the tender age of eight. The 76-year-old from Major Street, Darlington, faced 12 counts of indecent assault and six of rape. He denied all charges but was swiftly convicted at Teesside Crown Court.

Judge Slams Abuse, Praises Officers’ “High Quality” Work

Judge Howard Crowson sentenced Telford to 25 years in prison, praising the police for their “high quality” investigation. The court heard a powerful victim impact statement that laid bare the lifelong pain caused by the vile predator.

“This man not only took away from me my childhood innocence and the enjoyment of growing up without fear of abuse,” the victim said. “He stole my dignity and belief in myself, creating fear and nightmares that haunt me to this day.”

“He made me feel dirty – even now, I still feel dirty. It took me so long to speak out because I was conditioned to believe no one would believe me.”

“I want to thank the court and especially Heidi Weir for her support and tireless work bringing this evil man to justice.”

Telford’s conviction shines a light on decades of hidden abuse and sends a chilling warning: predators will eventually face justice.
