Undeterred, the offender leapt into the vehicle and repeatedly jumped up and down on the bonnet, windscreen, and roof, leaving significant damage.
Chief Inspector Slams ‘Mindless’ Attack
“This was a mindless act of vandalism which caused a response vehicle to be out of commission,” said District Commander Chief Inspector Garry Cook. “That greatly impacts the service and the public who need a police response.”
“Without patrol cars, officers cannot attend incidents and lives can be put at unnecessary risk. We will relentlessly pursue and deal with people who commit such acts.”
Offender Arrested and Charged
Stead Knapp, 28, from The Shoreway, St Mary’s Island, Chatham, was arrested and charged with criminal damage.
He pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 24 April and was granted bail. Knapp is due back in court on Monday 5 August.
