Detective Caught Red-Handed with Cocaine – Fired Without Warning!
DS Wayne Stanley Dropped Cocaine on Duty
Detective Sergeant Wayne Stanley, 41, was caught in a shocking police scandal. On 28 December 2019, Surrey Police responded to a call at a residential address where Stanley was present. Officers saw him drop a small package from his pocket. It was later confirmed to contain cocaine.
Guilty Verdict and Hefty Fine
Following a Surrey Police investigation, Stanley was charged with cocaine possession on 6 April 2021. The Guildford Crown Court found him guilty on 20 May 2022. He was slapped with a £750 fine and £2,250 in costs.
He was placed on restricted duty the same day he was arrested and remained so until his dismissal.
Fired for Gross Misconduct
Assistant Commissioner Helen Ball chaired the misconduct hearing on 15 July at the Empress State Building. After reviewing the evidence, she ruled Stanley’s actions amounted to gross misconduct. He was sacked without notice.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Trevers, Met’s Operations Commander, slammed Stanley’s behaviour:
“This officer’s actions were far below the values and standards that we strive to uphold. Our communities deserve the best from their police officers, and such behaviour has no place in the Met. Our professional standards team will continue to look for those who fail us and hold them accountable.”
