PC Joseph Thompson Faces Gross Misconduct Verdict
PC Joseph Thompson, part of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, has been slammed for breaching professional standards with homophobic and sexually offensive social media posts.
On 6 October 2020, Thompson shared three vile posts on his personal account, prompting a full investigation. The independent chair ruled the actions amounted to gross misconduct.
Met Police Chief Demands Zero Tolerance
Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens fired a warning shot: “Officers must uphold professional standards at all times, including online. We expect exemplary behaviour on or off duty, public or private.”
He added, “This case shows we act decisively when officers cross the line. There’s no room for hate or disrespect in the Met.”
