Cop Attacked in Chichester Street Brawl
A police officer was viciously attacked after stepping into a street fight in Chichester city centre.
Officer Pounced On While Breaking Up Fight
The 31-year-old constable responded to a disturbance involving a group on East Street just after 10pm on Friday, 11 September. When he intervened, he was set upon by attackers. He chased the suspects on foot into nearby South Pallant, where he was assaulted again, suffering cuts and bruises to his head and body.
Four Teens Arrested Following the Attack
- Three boys, aged 16, and a 15-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of assault.
- Two of the boys and the girl also face charges of obstructing police.
The injured officer was treated at St Richard’s Hospital and released later that night.
Police Speak Out; Enquiries Ongoing
After questioning, two boys and the girl were released on police bail until 5 October. The other boy was released without charge.
Inspector Sharon Sawyer said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a police officer doing his duty. Thankfully his colleagues reacted very swiftly and made arrests, following which further enquiries are now being carried out.”
