Ex-Merseyside Cop Sacked for Racist Pics and Taking Photos of Mentally Ill
PC Ryan Connolly has been fired from Merseyside Police after a shocking anti-corruption probe found he shared racist and homophobic images. The 37-year-old also took photos of mentally ill people being sectioned without consent — a gross breach of trust.
‘Severely Offensive’ Images Found on Duty
The force discovered “severely offensive” photos on Connolly’s phone, taken between 2015 and 2018. He even snapped pictures at a murder scene where a teenager was stabbed in 2018, sharing a chilling image of a Ku Klux Klan member.
Connolly has already been convicted of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, misuse of a police computer, and misconduct in public office. He faces sentencing in Manchester Crown Court on 10 January.
Deputy Chief Constable Condemns Shocking Behaviour
“I am appalled by Connolly’s actions,” said Deputy Chief Constable Ian Critchley. “They are beyond comprehension and completely out of line with Merseyside Police’s high standards and values. Our officers perform brave and selfless acts daily protecting the vulnerable, but Connolly’s selfish actions have no place in our service.”
“His behaviour is deplorable and damages public trust in the police. We will take swift, robust action against any officer who falls short of our standards.”
Police Corruption Scandal Worsens
This scandal comes just weeks after two Metropolitan Police officers were jailed for sharing photos of murdered sisters in WhatsApp groups — highlighting a troubling pattern of misconduct within UK law enforcement.
