Sleeping Burglar Caught Red-Handed Amid Stolen Loot
Miroslav Jano, 34, was nabbed while snoozing next to a crime scene, surrounded by stolen goods. Police stormed a flat in Durham Close on April 4, 2022, after a break-in report and found Jano asleep in a communal area.
Initially, he was given conditional bail as cops pieced together the evidence. But forensic clues soon linked him to a burglary in Victoria Park, where officers found a bag stuffed with war medals — loot stolen during another spree in Durham Close.
Forensics and CCTV Seal Jano’s Fate
Further CCTV footage connected Jano to a break-in on Flying Horse Lane. He was arrested again on May 9. Facing multiple charges, Jano pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and two counts of theft. Three other offences were also recorded but not prosecuted.
Three Years Behind Bars for Serial Burglar
On October 26, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced Jano to three years in prison. Detective Constable Martin Aird of Shepway CID commented:
“Burglary is a serious crime that significantly affects victims. Serial offenders like Jano ignore the pain they cause, stealing treasured possessions and leaving homeowners to foot costly repair bills.”
Aird added a warning to the public:
“Many burglaries are opportunistic and preventable. Always double-lock your doors and windows, and keep CCTV systems well-maintained to capture clear images.”
