Car Crime Spree Shakes Darlington
Jamie Marriott caused chaos in Darlington last November, smashing into several cars within just 24 hours. In one brazen theft, he nabbed a rucksack containing a child’s potty and wet wipes from a Kia Picanto. In another, he ripped out the ignition box from a Kia Sportage.

Marriott didn’t stop there. He also swiped a Renault Megane from a home on Cardinal Gardens. The vehicle was later found abandoned and set on fire on Albert Road, adding to the community’s alarm.
Failed Break-Ins and Swift Arrest
The 33-year-old, from Westbrook, Darlington, tried breaking into several other vehicles but was foiled by locked doors. Police quickly linked Marriott to the series of offences and arrested him within 48 hours.
Jailed for 13 Months Following String of Charges
Marriott faced multiple charges including driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, eight counts of vehicle interference, and three counts of theft—all of which he admitted. He appeared at Teesside Crown Court on March 17 and was sentenced to 13 months behind bars.
Detective Sergeant Liam Robertson, Darlington CID, said: “Marriott is a prolific offender who has brought misery to residents in Darlington, and his offending will not be tolerated.
“Thanks to the combined efforts of our local response officers and detectives, Marriott was quickly identified, arrested, and charged.
“I am pleased that he has been sentenced to time in prison which will give residents some respite from his offending.”
