Man Jailed for Stabbing Victim in Brutal Early Morning Brawl

Jerfi Breen, 25, threw a chaotic party at his sister’s house in Sackville Close on 27 September last year. The night turned violent just after midnight, with police called to break up a savage fight in the early hours of 28 September.

Victim Suffered Collapsed Lung After Stabbed in Chest

Officers arrived around 1:30am to find a man stabbed in the chest and slashed on the arm and finger. The victim quickly fingered Breen as his attacker. Breen was spotted leaving the property and swiftly arrested.

The victim was rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung, spending several days recovering. He recalled being hit on the head with a pole, punched in the chest, and realised he’d been stabbed as blood poured out.

Knife Found in Bin, Breen’s DNA on Metal Pole

A police cordon was set up on Sackville Close while detectives combed the scene. A baton and metal pole were found nearby, stained with Breen’s DNA. The murder weapon – a knife – was discovered in the kitchen bin.

Breen denied stabbing the man, claiming the victim attacked him first with a pole. He said he might have punched the man but had limited memory of the fight before being handcuffed.

Breen Slams Blame, Then Pleads Guilty and Gets Eight Years

Initially denying the charge of grievous bodily harm with intent, Breen changed his plea to guilty on day one of his Peterborough Crown Court trial on 9 November. He admitted acting in self-defence as the brawl escalated.

The judge sentenced Breen to eight years behind bars.

Detective Sergeant Graham Newton said: “This fantastic result comes as a relief to the victim and witnesses, who can now put this behind them. Luckily the victim has made a full recovery but the consequences of the stabbing could have been so much worse. It was nothing short of a brutal attack.”

“This case highlights the dangers of carrying a knife or weapon. Knife crime is a priority for the force and we will continue tirelessly to take weapons off the streets.”

Police Launch Knife Crime Crackdown Following Sentence

Breen’s sentencing kicks off a week-long police operation targeting knife crime. Officers will carry out knife sweeps, clamp down on retailers selling to youngsters, and hold virtual school presentations warning kids about the deadly risks of carrying weapons.
