Brutal Home Invasion: Jamie Wightman Jailed for 10 Years
Jamie Wightman, 25, dragged an elderly man from his bed after breaking in through a bedroom window on Mansfield’s Bellamy Road. He then launched a vicious assault, demanding cash and valuables.
Violent Robbery Leaves Victim Seriously Injured
The terrifying attack happened early on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Wightman fled with the man’s wallet and phone. The victim suffered a fractured eye socket, broken spine, and a stab wound to his leg. He was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Caught on CCTV, Wightman Sentenced
Police identified Wightman via fingerprints and CCTV footage. He was arrested the same day but refused to answer questions. Eventually, he pleaded guilty to robbery.
Today at Nottingham Crown Court, Wightman, from Bamford Drive, Mansfield, was sentenced to 10 years and six months behind bars. He must serve at least two-thirds of that time and will face an additional five years on probation.
Police Shocked by Attack on Elderly Victim
“This was an incident that shocked and appalled the local community,” said Detective Constable Bethany Sumner of Nottinghamshire Police.
“As a cop, I’ve worked on a lot of cases, but this was without a doubt one of the worst.
“Wightman chose not only to burgle an elderly man, but also to subject him to a sustained and wholly unnecessary attack.
“Unsurprisingly, what happened that day had a profound emotional impact on the victim. I hope today’s sentence brings him and his family some solace as they deal with what happened.”
